CTYBC – December Field Trip – Connecticut Christmas Bird Counts

Instead of a December field trip, members of the bird club decided the responsible thing to do would be to volunteer to get involved in their local Christmas Bird Counts. One of our members, Nicole Segal, headed out with Brian O’Toole (Audubon’s CTYBC Coordinator and Greenwich/Stamford Christmas bird count Coordinator) and others for a days counting in Greenwich. You can read Brian’s write-up of the day on Greenwich Patch (here).

Alex Burdo and James Randall, other club members, joined the Westport Christmas Bird Count for the day out in Fairfield. They found a host of good birds and their local expertize helped the group finding some nice birds for the Westport Count Circle. You can read all about Alex’s day out on his blog here.

For more information about the Christmas Bird Count you can check out the National Audubon Society website (here). The site includes information about the history of the count, historical data stretching all the way back to the first counts as well as lots of other interesting information.
